Arizona Paint Supply

Authorized Benjamin Moore dealer since 2016

Why we carry Benjamin Moore.

Two reasons it holds up on an Arizona house, and how we choose the line for your job.

Color

The color stays in the paint.

A gallon of paint is two things: a base, and the colorant we add at the counter to make your color. Benjamin Moore makes both, and makes them to work together.

On Aura, the color is locked into the paint as it dries rather than resting on the surface, so it holds in the sun. That is why we suggest Aura Exterior for a deep color on a west or south wall.

Every Benjamin Moore store mixes a color from the same formula, so the gallon you pick up next month matches the one you opened today. On a large job we still mix the gallons together before the first coat, which is good practice with any paint.

The colorant is called Gennex, and it is zero-VOC. A Benjamin Moore line sold as low- or zero-VOC stays that way in the darkest charcoal as well as the palest white.

Sun

Tested in full sun, for years.

Benjamin Moore tests its exteriors in full sun for years. In Arizona, that is the test that counts: sun fades a color, chalks the surface and cracks the paint long before rain does.

Aura Exterior, Regal Select Exterior and Element Guard each carry a limited lifetime warranty.

Choosing the line

The right line for the job — not always the top one.

Every Benjamin Moore line covers in two coats under normal conditions. What you pay for as you move up is how long it holds, and we will tell you when a project doesn’t need the top line. The exterior shelf, top to bottom:

Flagship
Aura Exterior
Deep colors on west and south walls. The color is locked into the paint as it dries, so it holds up in our sun.
Workhorse
Regal Select Exterior
The standard Scottsdale repaint. Premium without paying for the flagship.
AZ specialty
Element Guard
Summer repaints. Goes on in heat, tolerates a surprise monsoon an hour later.
Value
Ultra Spec EXT
Benjamin Moore at a value price.

Coronado Texcrete isn’t on the list because it is never the finish. It is a thick, flexible first coat for cracked or heavily chalked stucco, and in Arizona it always gets a topcoat of Regal Select Exterior or Aura Exterior, because the sun breaks it down on its own.
