Ceiling Paint
Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint, ultra-flat and spatter-resistant, stocked at our North Scottsdale store. The flat, uniform finish that hides drywall flaws and quiets glare overhead.
A ceiling is the largest unbroken surface in most rooms, and it is the one place where every roller mark, patch, and texture flaw shows in raking light. Ceiling paint is engineered for that job: an ultra-flat finish that absorbs light instead of reflecting it, high hide for even coverage in two coats, and a body formulated to resist spatter when you are rolling overhead. At Arizona Paint Supply we recommend and stock Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint, a true ultra-flat that goes on uniform and tones down the glare that wall paint leaves behind. Our staff can tint it, match it, and tell you how much you will need before you leave the store.
Why It Matters
Why ceiling paint is different from wall paint
Wall paint and ceiling paint are formulated for different problems. Wall paints lean toward washability and a slight sheen for high-touch areas. Ceiling paint does the opposite: it is built to disappear, hiding the surface rather than drawing attention to it.
The two differences that matter most overhead are sheen and spatter. An ultra-flat sheen sits at the lowest end of the gloss scale, so it absorbs light and camouflages drywall seams, patches, and texture variation. It also resists flashing, the uneven shine that appears when touch-ups or roller passes dry to different lusters. A spatter-resistant body means fewer specks raining down on you and the drop cloth while you work above your head.
- Ultra-flat sheen hides drywall seams, nail pops, and patch lines
- Flat finish reduces flashing from touch-ups and overlapping passes
- High hide for clean, uniform results in two coats
- Spatter-resistant formulation made for rolling overhead
- Tones down glare so the ceiling reads as a calm, even plane
The Product
Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint
Waterborne Ceiling Paint is Benjamin Moore’s dedicated ceiling product and one of the flattest finishes they make. It is formulated to minimize spatter for easier cleanup, deliver solid hide, and reduce lap marks across large spans. It is low-VOC, low-odor, and cleans up with soap and water.
It is self-priming on most ceiling substrates and works over drywall, plaster, cured masonry, acoustical ceiling tile, wood, and previously painted ceilings. While it is best known in flat white, it is tintable through the Gennex Color system, so you are not limited to stark white if you want a soft off-white or a custom shade.
- Ultra-flat finish, among the flattest Benjamin Moore offers
- Spatter-resistant for overhead roller work
- Low-VOC, low-odor, soap-and-water cleanup
- Self-priming and mildew-resistant on most ceiling substrates
- Tintable via Gennex; available in quart, gallon, and 5-gallon sizes
Texture & AZ Homes
Built for textured and knockdown ceilings
Knockdown is one of the most common ceiling textures in Phoenix-area homes, and popcorn still turns up in older tract houses. Textured ceilings are where an ultra-flat finish matters most: the deep matte hides the shadows and inconsistencies that a sheen would only emphasize.
Texture also drinks paint, so coverage and hide matter. Plan your quantities around the rougher surface rather than a smooth-drywall estimate, and ask us to help you calculate it. A handful of products outside the Benjamin Moore ceiling line use a tinted formula that rolls on lightly colored and dries white so you can see your coverage on heavy texture; if that workflow appeals to you on a tricky popcorn ceiling, ask and we will point you to the right option.
- Ultra-flat hides the shadowing common on knockdown and popcorn
- Plan extra paint for textured surfaces that absorb more coating
- Common across Phoenix-metro tract homes and new construction
- Ask us about coverage-indicator ceiling paints for heavy texture

Questions we hear at the counter
Can I use ceiling paint on walls, or wall paint on ceilings?
You can, but neither is ideal. Ceiling paint is ultra-flat and not built for the washing and scuffing walls take. Wall paint usually carries more sheen, which highlights ceiling imperfections and flashing. For the best result overhead, use a dedicated ceiling paint like Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint.
Why is flat or ultra-flat best for ceilings?
A flat finish absorbs light instead of reflecting it, so it camouflages drywall seams, patches, and texture variation and reduces flashing from touch-ups. The flatter the sheen, the more forgiving the ceiling looks, which is why ceiling paints sit at the lowest gloss levels.
Does Waterborne Ceiling Paint come in colors other than white?
Yes. While it is most often used in flat white, it is tintable through the Gennex Color system, so we can mix it into soft off-whites or custom shades. Just bring or describe the color you want and we will tint it on site.
How much ceiling paint do I need?
Budget roughly 400–450 square feet of coverage per gallon on a smooth surface, and plan for more on textured ceilings, which absorb additional paint. Bring us your room dimensions and whether the ceiling is smooth or textured and we will get your quantity right.
What is the best paint for knockdown or popcorn ceilings?
An ultra-flat ceiling paint, because it hides the shadowing and inconsistency that texture creates. Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint is a strong choice. For heavy popcorn texture where seeing your coverage is hard, ask us about coverage-indicator products that roll on tinted and dry white.
Do you carry ceiling paint in Phoenix and Scottsdale?
Yes. We stock Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint at our North Scottsdale (Raintree) store, with on-site tinting and color matching. We open at 6 am on weekdays for early starts.
Made for the Valley
Phoenix-metro homes are full of textured ceilings — knockdown across newer tract and custom builds and popcorn in older houses — which is exactly where an ultra-flat ceiling paint pays off by hiding shadow and inconsistency. Arizona Paint Supply stocks Benjamin Moore Waterborne Ceiling Paint at our North Scottsdale (Raintree) store, tints it on site, and opens at 6 am on weekdays so contractors can grab it before the job.
