Black Bean DE6385

Benjamin Moore already has the formula for Black Bean, so we mix the exact color at our North Scottsdale counter, in the line the surface needs. Same color, better paint. About this color

Recommended surfaces
  • — Exterior trim and fascia, set darker than the body
  • — Front doors, shutters, iron gates
  • — Accent walls — well-lit interior rooms
  • — Cabinet contrast

Sheen: Matte or eggshell on interior walls; flat on exterior stucco. Soft gloss or semi-gloss on doors, shutters and trim.

DE6385 Black Bean is a near-black (LRV ≈ 7). Very dark colors are the Arizona desert-architecture trim and accent default: desert-aesthetic HOAs typically want trim and fascia set darker than the body, and white trim is uncommon here. They suit front doors, shutters and iron gates. At LRV 7 it sits inside all three municipal overlay caps: Scottsdale ESL (35), Paradise Valley Hillside (38) and Scottsdale Foothills (40). As a full body on a west wall they run hot, so talk to us about the elevation first; for trim and accents we use Aura Exterior or Regal Select soft gloss.

Which Benjamin Moore line?

Benjamin Moore HP, for iron and metal

Wrought iron, gates and railings take a coating made for metal, not house paint. We start with Command, a one-part urethane in satin or gloss, tinted to the color; bare steel gets a rust-inhibiting primer first. Trim and doors in the same color take Regal Select Exterior in soft gloss. Bring the Benjamin Moore code from any of the five swatches above and we’ll mix that exact color at the counter.
