Decorative Finishes
Tadelakt, and the Shower Finish We Carry Instead
The traditional Moroccan lime finish, explained, and the seamless, water-resistant plaster we carry for Phoenix and Scottsdale showers.
Tadelakt is a look we hear about often: a soft, hand-burnished, seamless surface that wraps a shower or bath in a single continuous skin. True tadelakt is a centuries-old Moroccan technique built on lime plaster and olive-oil soap—a craft, not a product on a shelf. Arizona Paint Supply does not stock a tadelakt product. What we carry instead is Meoded Concretta microcement, which gives the seamless, water-resistant result most people are after. This page explains what tadelakt is, and where Concretta picks up the job in a Phoenix bathroom.
The Technique
What Tadelakt Is
Tadelakt is a traditional lime-plaster finish from the Marrakech region of Morocco. The name comes from an Arabic word meaning “to rub” or “to massage,” which describes how it is finished: the surface is troweled, then compressed and burnished with a smooth stone—traditionally a river pebble—until it takes on a polished sheen.
Its water resistance comes from chemistry, not a coating. The cured lime is treated with a natural olive-oil soap; the soap reacts with the lime to form calcium stearate, a thin water-repellent layer. This is why tadelakt has clad hammams, riads, and Moroccan palace bathrooms for generations.
- Material: natural lime plaster
- Finish: stone-burnished, polished sheen
- Sealed by olive-oil soap, not a film coating
- Historic use: hammams, baths, riads
What We Stock
Why We Don’t Sell a Tadelakt Product
Authentic tadelakt is highly technique-dependent. Results live and die on lime quality, timing, burnishing skill, and the soap cure—variables that don’t travel well into a predictable, warrantable bathroom build. We’d rather point you to a finish that delivers the seamless, water-resistant look reliably.
That finish is Meoded Concretta—a microcement, not a lime tadelakt. It is a different material that produces the result most homeowners describe when they say “tadelakt shower”: continuous, grout-free, soft and modern, and engineered for wet areas.
- We carry Concretta microcement, not tadelakt
- Different material, comparable seamless look
- Built and sealed for real shower use
- Transparent guidance—no bait-and-switch
The Crossover
Concretta Microcement: The Tadelakt-Look Finish for Wet Areas
Concretta FS is a mineral, cement-and-lime microcement applied in thin troweled coats. It creates a seamless surface with no grout lines—the continuous, hand-worked appearance people associate with tadelakt—and it is designed specifically for wet and humid areas.
For showers and wet zones, Concretta is sealed with Meoded PlasterGuard (three to four coats on shower walls; PlasterGuard plus PlasterSeal Plus on floors and countertops) to make it water-resistant in daily use. It can be applied directly over existing tile or marble without primer—useful for Phoenix and Scottsdale remodels where you want to skip a demo.
- Seamless, grout-free modern surface
- Engineered for showers, tubs, backsplashes
- Water-resistant when sealed with PlasterGuard
- Goes over existing tile or marble—no primer
Choosing
Tadelakt vs. Concretta vs. Moroccan Clay
Tadelakt is a lime technique. Concretta is a cement microcement. Moroccan Clay is a clay decorative wall finish—earthen and matte, for dry interior walls only.
If you want a seamless, water-resistant bathroom, Concretta is the answer. If you want an earthen feature wall in a living space, look at Moroccan Clay. If you want true lime tadelakt, that’s a specialist craft service rather than something we stock.
- Tadelakt = lime, polished, water-repellent (technique)
- Concretta = cement microcement, seamless, wet-area ready
- Moroccan Clay = clay, matte, interior dry walls only

Questions we hear at the counter
Does Arizona Paint Supply sell tadelakt?
No. True tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan lime-plaster technique, and we don’t stock a tadelakt product. For the seamless, water-resistant look people usually want, we carry Meoded Concretta microcement—a different material that delivers that result reliably.
What is tadelakt made of?
Lime plaster finished with a natural olive-oil soap. The soap reacts with the lime to form a thin water-repellent layer (calcium stearate), and the surface is burnished smooth with a stone.
Can I get a tadelakt-style shower in Phoenix?
Yes—using Concretta microcement. It produces the seamless, continuous, soft-matte appearance associated with tadelakt and is engineered for wet areas when sealed with Meoded PlasterGuard.
Is Concretta the same as tadelakt?
No. Tadelakt is lime; Concretta is a cement-and-lime microcement. They are different materials that share a similar seamless aesthetic. Concretta is the one we carry and the one built for predictable wet-area performance.
Is a tadelakt look the same as Moroccan Clay?
No. Moroccan Clay is a clay-based decorative finish for dry interior walls—matte and earthen, not waterproof and not for showers. Don’t use it in wet areas.
Can Concretta go over my existing shower tile?
Yes. Concretta bonds directly over properly prepared tile and marble without primer, which makes it a strong option for Phoenix and Scottsdale remodels.
