What it's for

Intonaco has a medium grain and a thick body, so it holds a shape. Meoded's fluting tools press clean, repeating grooves into it while it is wet; we stock the full set, corner tools included. Raking tools pull rougher, more organic lines. It can also be troweled smooth.

Heavy textures are built in several thin coats, up to about 1/8 inch each, rather than one thick one; a single thick coat is what cracks. Make a sample board first, because the texture changes how far a pail goes.

Seal it with Stain Shield, which soaks in and protects the texture without adding a film or sheen.

Finish: Matte, from smooth to deep texture
Inside or out: Interior and exterior
Made of: Lime with a medium-size limestone grain
Coats: Two or more thin coats over Quartz Primer, each up to about 1/8 inch
Coverage: Gallon (5 kg): about 15–35 sq ft for two coats. Quart (1 kg): 3–7 sq ft. 4-gallon bucket (20 kg): 60–140 sq ft. Deeper textures cover less.
The wall: Level 4 or better; repair cracks and holes first
Color: Tinted at our counter to Meoded's plaster colors, or to a custom color
Seal: Stain Shield

How it goes on

Meoded's steps, shortened. The full instructions come with the product.

1Prime. New drywall gets a drywall primer (PVA) and glossy paint gets sanded and a multi-purpose primer; then one coat of Meoded Quartz Primer, three to five hours to dry. A sound, flat painted wall needs only the Quartz Primer.
2First coat: thin and even. A damp sponge in circles before it dries evens it out and exposes the grain. At least 12 hours to dry.
3Second coat: a little thicker. Trowel it smooth, or build flutes, rakes and stone textures in several thin coats.
4After at least 48 hours, seal with Stain Shield.
5Outside, over a stucco brown coat: pressure-wash it, let it dry, prime with Quartz Primer thinned up to 25% with water, and apply three thin coats instead of two.
