Meoded · Sand-finish lime plaster
Tonachino Firenze
A fine sand-finish lime plaster of slaked lime and river sand. A soft, even texture with quiet movement and a Mediterranean feel, inside or outside.

What it's for
Firenze is the quietest of the lime plasters: the texture of fine sand rather than stone or marble. The first coat goes on thin and the second about as thick as the sand grain, and a wet sponge worked in circles while each is still damp brings the sand up evenly.
Slaked lime and river sand give it strong adhesion and water repellency, and it is rated for interior and exterior walls. Designers use it where they want the plaster to feel like part of the architecture rather than a feature wall.

How it goes on
Meoded's steps, shortened. The full instructions come with the product.
- 1Prime. New drywall gets a drywall primer (PVA) and glossy paint gets sanded and a multi-purpose primer; then one coat of Meoded Quartz Primer, three to five hours to dry. A sound, flat painted wall needs only the Quartz Primer.
- 2First coat: thin and even, keeping a wet edge so there are no lap marks. While it is moist, a damp sponge in circles exposes the sand. At least 12 hours to dry.
- 3Second coat: the same way, about as thick as the sand grain, sponged the same.
- 4After at least 48 hours, seal with Stain Shield.
- 5Outside, over a stucco brown coat: pressure-wash it, let it dry, prime with Quartz Primer thinned up to 25% with water, and apply three thin coats instead of two.
Colors
Meoded's photographed samples. The same color reads differently in each plaster, with its texture and sheen. Screens vary; see the boards at the store before you choose.
